Friday potluck

Welcome, friends, to the weekly roundup we refer to as the Friday potluck.

Better if it were battered and fried:

Florida already had gators, snakes, feral pigs, and flying/biting bugs. Now we have a new critter to add to the list of potentially lethal neighbors: jumping fish.

On June 2, a woman was knocked unconscious by a sturgeon that leaped out of the Suwanee River and toppled the unsuspecting lady off her boat. And she's not the first victim this year!

I see a red door court and I want it painted black pink:

Yesterday the French Tennis Federation hosted a "Ladies' Day" at the French Open.

How did they celebrate the contribution of talented athletes like Billy Jean King, Steffi Graff, and the Williams sisters?

They spray-painted everything Pepto-Bismol pink.

Surely this is not what Title IX was intended for...

Problems a pedicure won't cure:

One of the most popular "yes, folks" posts is a review I wrote of Bad Shoes & The Women Who Love Them.

This week Kate reminds high-heel-wearers of more good reasons to ditch the stilettos.

eReading and eWriting:

If you write (novelist, blogger, journalist, essayist, scribbler...) you may occasionally need a little nudge to get off the interwebs and get back to writing. If so, FWJ reviews some nifty new tools to help us get the job done.

And with all of that new-found free time, we can read more! CoolTools shows us where to find cheap (or free) e-books.

But if you're not quite ready to get off the interwebs today:

Quote of the week:
"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run."
John Bingham, Runner's World
Have a happy weekend, friends!
